MuCell Material Data Sheets

Limitation of Test Specimen Information in regards to the MuCellŪ Process

The ISO and ASTM test procedures and specimens are designed to provide a common geometry by which the inherent performance of materials can be evaluated and compared. They are also designed to confirm that a material performance does not change across a lot of material or from lot to lot. The test specimens and procedures are not designed to evaluate the effect of process conditions on the material performance in a molded part or the effect of part geometry on performance. They are designed to evaluate a single property in essentially a two dimensional geometry. .

Part performance is a combination of tensile and flexural loads complicated by a 3 dimensional geometry and complex flow paths. Failure modes are a combination of residual stresses from the injection molding process and the stresses applied to the part in use. Due primarily to the much higher residual stresses in the solid injection molding process the differences in the performance of a solid part and a part produced with the MuCell Process are typically much less than seen in standard test specimens.

Despite the clear limitations to ISO and ASTM procedures when applied to the MuCell Process, Trexel has broadened its material data library to include the following Materials.
